We are excited to announce this year that we will have Crew from the first bombing Raid on Japan and crew from the last bomber raid on Japan !!!  Locally, we also have the navigator that led the lead B-29 over the Japanese Surrender in Tokyo Bay.

We welcome back this year, Lt. Col. Dick Cole. Dick was co-pilot to Jimmy Doolittle, mission commander.  Lt. Col. Cole attends a lot of events but enjoyed Wings & Wheels so much, he has asked to return, which says a lot about our event!  The raid on Tokyo on April 19, 1942, caused minor damage but it forced the Japanese to recall its forces. The B-25 bomber (pictured) used in the raid, was the largest aircraft at the time from the deck of a carrier--the USS Hornet.  Click here for more information!

Check out this great show of Dick Cole Co-piloting with Larry Kelly.

On August 6, 1945, 2nd Lt. Russell Gackenbach participated in arguably the single act that ended World War II - the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. Three days later, on Aug. 9, 1945, the Enola Gay departed for Nagasaki to release another destructive payload, called "Fat Man." The Japanese surrendered on Aug. 14, 1945.
